About Aesthetics

What is facial aesthetics? It’s the art of science and beauty. As we get older our skin loses elasticity and tone, and the tissues below thin, resulting in loss of facial structure and definition. At this point, many of us lose confidence in the way we look.

Facial aesthetics is the non-surgical way to revitalise the skin on the outside and help you feel great on the inside. With no need for surgery or invasive treatment, facial aesthetics is the effective and affordable way to feel moreMe.

We believe every client is unique and we carefully tailor our treatment plans to suit your need, budget and expectation.

We strive to make each and every client look and feel their very best. Now that’s moreMe.

Consultation

All of our treatments require a consultation. This face-to-face consultation is one of the most important steps in your aesthetics journey. Medically you must be deemed suitable for treatment and your facial anatomy must be directly assessed in order to develop an accurate treatment plan.

Treatment options will be discussed at length, with close consideration being given to your desires, expectations and budget.

Our aim is to enhance your natural appearance, not change it. We believe that ‘less is more’ and we advise our clients to consider additive treatments in a staged approach.

Clinic times will vary week to week. We provide flexible evening and weekend appointments to suit the needs of everyone.

Wrinkle Relaxant Treatments

What are wrinkle relaxants?

Wrinkle relaxants contain Botulinum Toxin, a naturally derived purified protein, that functions as a muscle relaxant. When selectively injected, Botulinum Toxin causes reversible muscle relaxation, diminishing the visible appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum Toxin is very specific in its action, only disabling the activity of the targeted muscles.

The most commonly recognised wrinkle relaxant is BOTOX®, which is essentially a trade name and brand of Botulinum Toxin. Other brands of Botulinum Toxin are available, including Azzalure®, Bocouture®, Dysport® and Xeomin®. Historically, Botulinum Toxin has been prescribed to treat certain medical conditions such as chronic migraine, eyelid spasm, bladder spasm and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the underarms, hands and feet). Its use is not a new concept.

What can wrinkle relaxants treat?

Basic wrinkle relaxant treatments:

  • Creases between the eyebrows, i.e. frown lines
  • Upper forehead lines
  • Fines lines and creases around the eyes, i.e. crow’s feet

Advanced wrinkle relaxant treatments:

  • Gummy smile
  • Downturned corners of the mouth
  • Dimpling of the chin area
  • Wide-set jaw/teeth grinding
  • Neck lines
  • Excessive underarm sweating
How long do wrinkle relaxants last?

You are likely to require repeat treatments every 3-4 months, to maintain a continued natural, youthful appearance.

Will I see an immediate result?

Botulinum Toxin starts to work very quickly, but the cosmetic effect takes time to develop. Subtle changes may be seen from days 3-5, with peak onset of effect by day 14.

Is there any downtime?

Individual treatments usually take on average 10 minutes. There may be some localised post procedure redness/bruising, which can be easily camouflaged with light makeup. There is no downtime and you may resume your usual activities of daily living, with the exception of strenuous exercise.

Are wrinkle relaxants safe?

Wrinkle relaxants have an excellent safety profile, with over 2million users to date across Europe. The doses administered are relatively small and as such the risks are minimal. If any complications do occur they are usually temporary and carry a mild to moderate classification.

What are the contraindications (when is it not recommended) to use?
  • Pregnancy/breastfeeding
  • Neuromuscular disorders, e.g. MG/MND
  • Blood coagulation disorders
  • Infected skin, e.g. cold sores, cellulitis
What are the possible side-effects?
  • Localised bleeding, bruising, swelling, irritation
  • Transient headache
  • Eyebrow/eyelid ptosis (less common complication)

Results may vary from client to client. Full details including anticipated results, cautions/contraindications, side-effects and longevity will be discussed at face-to-face consultation.

What is the post procedure advice?
  • Avoid high intensity exercise for 24 hours
  • Avoid touching/massaging the injected areas
  • Avoid heavy alcohol consumption on same day
  • Avoid hot environments on same day (sauna/steam rooms/hot bath/sunbeds)
  • Full effect established in 2 weeks
Are wrinkle relaxants painful?

Experience is client dependent, however most individuals experience the procedure to be more comfortable than expected. You will expect to feel some mild stinging at the injection site and may experience slight redness/bruising afterwards, however this is temporary and will resolve.

Dermal fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a large naturally occurring sugar based compound, which can be found within the skin layers. It functions to hold moisture in the spaces between the cells of the skin, allowing it to stay plump.

Dermal fillers are injected below the surface of the skin, to fill and smooth visible creases and folds and correct volume loss. The hyaluronic acid works to volumise, soften and hydrate the skin, giving the skin a more rejuvenated and refined texture. Fillers recreate structure enabling facial features to be redefined and contoured, creating a truly more youthful and profiled appearance.

What areas can dermal fillers treat?

Dermal fillers can be used to treat a variety of areas of concern, including;

  • Volumising and shaping lips
  • Naolabial folds (nose to mouth lines)
  • Marionette lines (mouth to chin lines)
  • Cheeks
How long do dermal fillers last?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are semi-permanent, as like naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, they slowly break down over time. It is anticipated that post treatment effect will be maintained for an average of 6-9 months (lips on average 6 months). The rate of product loss is however client dependent, as certain external factors such as smoking and sun exposure accelerate break down and loss of desired effect.

Is there any downtime?

Individual treatments take on average 20-30 minutes. There may be some post procedure redness/bruising, which can be easily camouflaged with light makeup. There is no significant downtime and you may resume your usual activities of daily living, with the exception of strenuous exercise.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are approved by medicines regulatory bodies worldwide. They are extremely safe and effective when injected by qualified aesthetic practitioners, creating the most natural of looks.

What are the contraindications (when it is not recommended) to use?
  • Pregnancy/breastfeeding
  • Blood coagulation disorders
  • Infected skin, e.g. cold sores/cellulitis
  • Current use of aminoglycoside antibiotics, e.g. gentamicin
  • Known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or local anaesthetics, e.g. lidocaine
What are the possible side-effects?
  • Bleeding, bruising, tingling, redness, swelling
  • Lumpiness
  • Sensitivity/allergic reactions
  • Infection
  • Skin discoloration
  • Vascular effects (rare but serious complication)

Results may vary from client to client. Full details including anticipated results, cautions/contraindications, side-effects and longevity will be discussed at face-to-face consultation.

What is the post procedure advice?
  • Avoid high intensity exercise for 24 hours
  • Avoid touching/massaging the injected areas
  • Avoid heavy alcohol consumption on same day
  • Avoid hot environments on same day (sauna/steam rooms/hot bath/sunbeds)
  • Avoid cosmetic treatments, e.g. microdermabrasion, microneedling for a minimum of 14 days
Are dermal fillers painful?

Experience is client dependent, however many individuals experience the procedure to be more comfortable than expected. The lips and cheeks are less comfortable than other areas and this simply relates to facial anatomy, as these areas have a higher number of nerves innervating the skin and deeper layers. A local anaesthetic cream will be applied directly to the site of application to provide pre-treatment numbing, while the filler itself contains local anaesthetic for your additional comfort. For lip fillers, dental block may also be used to maximise comfort. As the anaesthetic effects wear off post treatment, you are likely to feel localised tenderness, however there should be no significant residual pain. Inflammation peaks 6 hours post procedure and slowly resolves over the following 48-72 hours. In more sensitive individuals, inflammatory processes may take longer to settle. Should you experience any post procedure complications, you are advised to contact your aesthetics practitioner promptly, to arrange assessment and treatment if required.
